1. You will notice two tabs running along the top of the screen. The default tab is the Home tab, which contains our web links. The second tab is the Catalog tab. This is where you click to access our card catalog.
2. Once you click on the catalog screen you will notice a search box that pops up in the center of the screen. You may search by author, topic or keyword. You may specify what type of search you are doing by clicking on the indicator below, but you don't have to.
3. Let's practice searching for a book together. Enter this title in the "Find" box - "Tuck Everlasting". This will connect you to a page which contains detailed information about that particular title.
4. Notice the title in the top left hand side of the entry. Immediately to the right of the title you'll find a details box. Click there to read a description and additional information related to the book. Use the back arrow to return to the previous screen when you are finished.
5. Continue looking at the entry. Under the title is a red book. Next to the red book are the books call numbers - F Bab (F for fiction, Bab for Babbitt - the first three letters of the author's last name).
6. The last portion of the entry I want you to take note of is the availability, which is located to the far right hand side. It should reflect that one of one copies is currently available.
7. Independent practice - please do at least three additional book searches using the same steps. Try to find at least one nonfiction book. Pay close attention to the details, availability and call number.
